It does seem rather dear. X-drives seem to be down around £150-200 against 3
or 4 for the Jobo. It depends how much you need the viewing screen.

The 40-gig version is only around £95 these days. I have the older, 30-gig,
one and have never had problems with it. I usually copy cards on to it twice,
to be sure everything's gone on. It's one drawback of using a device without a
full display or controls but you might be happy trusting it.

I had my first corrupt file recently, out of about 600 taken on holiday and
thousands altogether but it copied corrupt three times, which makes me
suspect the problem is elsewhere.
The older X-drives have a bit of a problem with battery life and a
difficult-to replace battery so I replaced mine with NIMh AA's and a couple
of 50p battery holders from RS, so the £48 I paid second-hand two years ago
still looks like a good buy.
Mind you, now I could get more pictures than I've ever taken in one go on a
1GB card for £20-odd, so do I need an X-deive at all? 21 months is a long
time in digital.

If you're a really paranoid type, like me, you keep the pictures on the card
*and* on the external drive  8-)

I bought the X-drive so I wouldn't have to. That was when a 64M card cost
about £15- in the dim dark days of mid-2004.
