Hi all,
How long should one expect a transfer of files from card reader to hdd take.
I poped my 1gb extreme 3 card in my usb2 reader and 461 large fine files of
approx 2.5 megs apeice took around 17 mins. Is this to be expected? Or can I
do better?

Thanks for any info

That equates to about 1.1MB/s, or what I'd expect from USB1 going flat
out, so I would investigate whether you're actually connecting up as
USB1 or USB2 for a start.

If you tell us what OS you're using we could probably point you to a
better solution.

Thanks for that.

I am on Win XP pro and as far as I know my enhanced USB driver is loaded in
device manager
Running Athlon Barton XP2800 @2.2 Gig, 1Gb Ram, Nvidia128 Gb graphics,
I though it seemed slow but after a day out  Flying Ledgends/Duxford and 700
files to transfer, I thought this takes the biscuit!

Well, I can think of two potential problems here:

1) Your PC BIOS may be set to only support USB1, go into the setup and
look under peripheral support and turn it on if this is the case

2) you have an old version of XP. Early versions of XP didn't have
support for EHCI USB2 and you'll need to update to get it working, have
a look here:

Do you have any other USB2 devices that you could test with? Does your
card reader come with any drivers of its own?

That's USB1 speed. Does your motherboard actually support USB2 and have the
right drivers installed, if not then a USB2 device will only work at USB1
speed. If could also be a slow card perhaps.

Thanks chaps for the help. Yes my mobo is a top Asus board from 18 months
ago and the bios is set correct. However my Win XP Pro is about 4 years old
so the support desk will be getting a knock at their door. Will let you know
how it goes.
