Hi,

I keep coming across deals from ADANI505-CAMERAS on eBay which seem too
good to be true:

http://stores.ebay.co.uk/ADANI505-CAMERAS

For example, the Canon 70-200 F/4 L for about 100 quid less than I can get
it anywhere else. However, as we all know, things which appear too good to
be true usually are.

Now, I realise these are US stock, and the barcodes are missing (for
mail-in rebate, or something), but the site does state worldwide
guarantee, and it's possible to collect and pay cash (which I could do
with their being local to me).

So... has anyone dealt with this/these guy(s)? Any happy customers? Horror
stories? Known catches?

I'd normally go with a good known supplier, but the lure of 100 quid off
is obviously tempting, but only if I can be sure it's legit.

Thanks for any information...

Cheers,

Stu

Some months ago I asked the seller a question ... actually several
questions:

1) Is the warranty valid at Canon UK or authorised Canon UK service
centres?

2) Will ADANI505-CAMERAS replace faulty items/pay for repairs not
covered under the Canon warranty?

3) Has import duty and VAT been paid on the imported items?

4) Is paperwork available to prove that import duty and VAT has been
paid?

I was unable to get satisfactory answers to any of these questions, so
I decided to give this eBay seller a very wide berth.

Thanks... just the sort of information I was looking for!

I think I shall do the same.

It's up to the importer, surely, to pay VAT and import duty. I can't see how
a buyer would be liable if they weren't.

If the Customs men can take your car for having more Gigs than they think
you smoke. Thinking you could not be libel is not the safe route  to follow

I'm not surprised. "Gigs" is an awful lot for one person to
smoke... ;-)

Agreed - you don't mess with the revenue men :) I hadn't even considered
this aspect in my original query.

I can only draw parallels from stolen goods. If you unknowingly buy stolen
goods, then no matter what good faith you bought them in, they're taken
off you and given back to the rightful owner. It's then up to you to
recover the costs from the seller.

I imagine that if duty isn't paid, then it's up to whoever they find with
the goods. However, I am not a lawyer.
