Hello!

Imagine that you are the boss of well known press agency or newspaper and
one day you receive the letter from person looking for a job in photography
and presenting the following portfolio:

What would be your opinion about it? Please write not only about that what
you like (I hope there are such things too ;) ) but also about things you
don't like in my portfolio. Thanks a lot for all comments.

OK, I'm the Picture Editor of a regional daily newspaper in England.

I've had a quick skim of your pics and basically, it's like this -
generally, they're best described as 'competent'.

Much of what you have on there - landscapes, pets, vehicles etc is
pretty irrelevent to newspaper photography and whilst it proves you can
do that kind of photography, certainly wouldn't make me jump up and
say, "Wow - I want to give this guy a job".

Your sport pics - rugby - generally they're OK, but many of them could
do with tighter cropping - you've got too much dead space around the
central action. The karate pic isn't too bad, but it does look a little
static.

Demonstrations - well personally, pics like them aren't really my thing
- I see a lot of student portfolios from time to time and they all have
at least one 'demo' photo in and usually centres round a pic of some
demonstrator holding up a board. That does nothing for me at all. Your
action pics, towards the end, are better.

Generally, you see, picture editors/photo managers don't have too much
time to go through galleries such as yours. I wouldn't really want to
see more than about 30 images, covering a diverse range of subjects.
You also need a few 'setup' images in there too - plus 'filler' pics
for when it's quiet - basically you need more evidence of thought going
into your pics rather than just taken 'as it happens'.

I don't wish to be negative, but I'd rather be honest and tell you the
reality of the situation :-)
