I am looking at purchasing a Pentax Optio 60 digital camera - It looks to
have the features I want at not much cost- One question though.

In my days of 35mm photography, it was easy to isolate a subject through
depth of field. The above camera has a manual option so will this be
possible if I use the camera on Telephoto (it has the equiv of a 108mm max
zoom) and on maximum aperture to do the same. Digital cameras seem to have
less leeway when it comes to depth of field , I guess because of the smaller
frame size.

Cheers

It works the same way but the telephoto equivalent of 108 mm is around 22mm
on the digital and you would get the big depth of field that a 22 mm lens on
a 35mm film camera has. Not what you wanted to here.
