I do my best to buy local

I've been pulling my hair out today in my attempts to spend cash at a local
shop.  In my town there are two (yes, 2!) Jessops stores, one each end of
the town (with not much between).

I've been toying with buying one of three cameras; a Sony DSC-P200, a Canon
A620 or a Canon S70.  Those in the know will be aware that the latter camera
is discontinued but some shops, including Jessops, still have stock.

On the interweb I can buy an S70 for about £220 from a pukka dealer
(ebuyer).  My local Jessops have one left and want £379 for it!  In the old
days they would be flexible on price, even for web prices.  In the good old
days I would buy readily from them [Jessops] but today all I encountered was
an arrogant and dismissive attitude.

So I bought from Ebuyer.

Just for the record I did try another couple of shops including Link Cameras
who were, frankly, just dopey.

In none of the shops did any of the sales people try to encourage me to look
at alternatives or even try to retain my business.

Also, when I was queuing (yes, I wasted my time waiting too!), I heard the
sales people spouting total nonsense to unsepecting newbies who were being
hypnotised into buying cameras with too many pixels and poor optics at vast
prices.

Rant over.  Had to get it off my chest.

Jessops - you've lost another customer.

Hurts dunnit!

Its like trying to support the local corner shops.
They have feck all, what they do have is overpriced, you feel like you are
on trial while you are in there and the opening hours are sh.t.
And as for 'back in 10 mins' on the door, you just dont get that at Asda.

And milkmen...dont get me started!

Canon Ixus 50 £191 at Amazon, £320 at Argos!

Great service, ordered noon on Tuesday (a Bank Holiday), arrived today
(thursday) at noon.

Jessops's price matching policy seems to change on a daily basis.
In October I was interested in a KM7D : the nearest the manager of the
Jessops refused to match any prices and his "normal" price was about the
highest around.
In early November I bought a KM5D at a different branch of Jessops, having
printed out an amazing special offer from the website of a reputable dealer.
The manager looked at the printout, fiddled with his computer and said
"That's less than what we pay for 5Ds" - I was prepared to be disappointed
but he went ahead with the sale anyway (but wouldn't let a memory card go
cheap too as he did not want to bankrupt the firm completely that day)
