Has anyone got a negative/slide scanner?

I just photograph my old slides with my digital camera as near as it
can, against a cloudy sky or white background. Alternatively in a slide
projector minus the projector lens and with photo paper in the lamp
system to cut the light down. However this can give too much contrast,
I think due to the camera being sensitive to infra red.
