As LCD viewfinders are hard to see in sunlight, and optical viewfinders
do not show what the camera makes of the scene, does anyone know of a
camera with an internal LCD screen that is viewed via a lens like a
normal optical one? It seems to me there is a marketing opportunity
here for camera makers.

There are quite a few. My Panasonic DMC FZ5 has one for example.

The Olympus UZ series too, including my C725. The viewfinder is a lo-res
LCD, not optical, but it's a bit small and you tend to poke yourself in the
eye when scrolling through pictures.

Hi

Many 'Prosumer' non SLR cameras have them - the trouble is the picture
through them isn't all that good. The resolution is not all that high making
things like manual focus very tricky. I've not tried one but some Minolta
cameras are said to have very good LCD viewfinders.

I thought most of the psuedo-SLR cameras with big zoom lens have this
sort of viewfinder.  I've just replaced my old Olympus E100RS with a
Panasonic DMC-FZ30, and both have this arrangement.

I have a Konica Minolta Z3 4.0mp with an excellent viewfinder that
replicates the screen in the eyepiece.  Coming from traditional cameras to
digital means that I use the viewfinder as a matter of course.

Most 'long lens' digicams have LCD viewfinders. The Minolta '7' series (7,
7i, 7hi etc) had both LCD viewfinders and larger displays on the back,
probably from around 2001.?

Which they are exploiting. Search on the term, "electronic viewfinder",
and you'll see what I mean.

EVFs are not universally liked.
