Hi there,

I have a Canon EF 50mm F1.4 lens and there is sand in the front of it
preventing the autofocus from working. Should I send it back to Canon UK
for repair or an independent place? If independent, which one?

Thanks a lot!
Mark.

Either way, it will be a VERY expensive repair.

The AF on my EF 50 f1.4 failed about 2 years ago.  From memory, Canon UK
repaired it (quite quickly) for around £150.  New prices are quite a bit
lower now than 2 years ago, and it might be worth buying a new one.  You
could try http://www.lehmannsdirect.co.uk/mainindex.asp .  They repaired my
EF 35 f2 (again an AF failure) a few months ago.  Repair took ~6 weeks.
Good luck.
