Could anyone tell me if it's possible to unerase images on a compact
flash card - providing they haven't been overwritten with new images?

Basically, I've just suffered a hard drive crash (before I had time to
burn images onto a DVD) and wondered if I could get ony of them back on
my Nikon Coolpix 5700. I have a card reader to connect the card to the
computer (if that's any help).

Has anyone had experience of this? Is compact flash it like computer
memory which doesn't actually wipe files until they're overwritten?

Any help would be gratefully received...

I tried this. It works. Fascinating to see what it found.

I once used a rescue application from karens powertoys It found files going
back over 5 years even after lots of defrags Of course not all where
complete as they would have been spread over lots of segments. But I can see
how the forensics boys work.

Couple of freeware products here.
I've tried this one and it works

This one is simpler, a bit slower, but less than 1Mb to download

you are correct ow it works, you can even recover frma format in most cases.
search for "digital image recovery". Amongst the many hits, you should find
an app with this exact name. It is now (or was?) on sale but older freeware
(legitimate) versions of it are around as well. Works like a treat on
memorycards. There are plenty of other apps around but this has worked
flawlessly for me in the past.

Hi,

You can give Active@ undelete a try, it worked for me great and never
failed before, so this data recovery tool can be of a good usage to
you.
