Hi

I have a Canon 10D, and although I'd love to upgrade to a 5 that is out of
the question!

I also have a powershot S45 and would like a more wide angle lens....so
looking at s70 and s80...any views would be appreciated. There are few
reviews yet on S80..is it substantially different? I have been happy with
the S45...and like the easy access to manual mode rather than having to go
through menus for it....I almost never use the auto picture modes.

Also my daughter would like a new camera for her birthday and has fallen in
love with the pink Olympus mu s (can't find symbol needed to spell
properly!)....called verve in US I think. Has anyone seen /own it & can tell
me whether it is a good buy./ She will be 16.

Thanks
Julie

One of our youngsters has one. Small, feels durable, excellent photos.
Disadvantages, no viewfinder and proprietary battery.

Not a problem.  Most point and shoot digicams have appalling
viewfinders.  The Olympus LCD screens are bright and clear.

>and proprietary battery.

Also not a problem.  Spare batteries (off brand) can be purchased on
eBay for a fiver plus postage.

Only downside - they have a tendency to be slow, i.e. long shutter
lag.

That's true of nearly all point and shoot digital cameras, regardless
of brand.

Actually no. The Casios are especially quick - typically 0.5 secs or
less from press to take, and the QV-R61 (currently Curry's at 149 or
EBuyer at 125) is quoted 10mS, and I can vouch for that being probably
right - it is bloody quick! The Canon IXUS50 is also pretty nifty.

Now if you want ssslllloooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwww try a Nikon compact -
4 secs is not unusual.
