i'm quite familiar with the lakes, but was wondering if anyone had any
suggestions of locations to shoot some of the famous peaks in the lakes?
often you need a vantage point away from the peak it's self, for example
yewbarrow to overlook scafell and great gable. where is the best spot to
to get a good view of the langdale pikes, helvelyn etc.

many thanks,

keith

for Langdale try Esk Pike

or Cold Pike

Hardnotte above the eponymous pass is good for Scafells

Skiddaw from the far side of Bassenthwaite Lake

Hellvelyn is a tough one, from the west it looks dull and the
hills to its west are too far away, your best bet is probably the
"hole in the wall" area at the start of Striding Edge approach
above Glenridding but also try from the ascent path on St Sunday
Crag.(east approach)

Just to say I couldn't get off your site when I stated looking at the
above!  Brilliant - if only the BBC pictures of Britain were half as
good!

One photo I took of Wast Water last year - in poor conditions - didn't
quite make it for me, and I was seeing if you had a shot from the same
point, just past the car park on the LHS looking towards Wasdale head.

Keep up the good work.

Mike

Some newsgroup contributors appear to have confused
the meaning of "discussion" with "digression".

Did you mean the Hardknott Pass?

I hope you don't mind my asking a question about this photo?

The dark rock in the bottom left. Was that consciously included or
unavoidable? I'm learning a lot about composition at the moment, and it
seems like a slight distraction, but then I can see how it balances the
forground rocks on the right. My brain errs more on the side of
distraction though. But then (argh) I can see that you'd have a large
plain area in the bottom left if it wasn't there.

I wonder if you could let me know the thought process around that rock.

Thanks in advance,

Stu
