A simple and probably stupid question. Can I use the same type of
filters which I used with both black & white film and colour with a
digital camera? (Canon EOS 350D).
Thanks
Angus.
Yes.

You can but, stating the obvious, if you use coloured filters, they will
affect the colour balance of your shots in colour. Polarizing, UV and ND
filters are OK for colour as well as B&W.
You can have fun experimenting, and with different combinations. The
'film' is cheap enough, after all.

causing cameras with automatic white balance to try to compensate.

It's only Usenet, no one dies.
My opinions, not the committee's, mine.

Hmm. It'll be interesting to see what happens. I wonder if one ends up
with a herniated sensor.

AAMOI, there's a free program for simulating the effect of coloured lenses
on digital images. You can download from here -

Funnily enough you cannot get directly to the page from the link
above, or by tying it in, but go to the home page, click English at
the top, then go to the bottom and click on PhotoFilter and you end up
at the same place.

You might not be able to but going direct works fine for me, in IE,
Firefox, Mozilla, Avant Browser and Opera. Sure your set-up's working
properly?
