Why don't you ask them?

That is BIG

But why do they still photograph people against mottled backgrounds?
I refuse to buy the school photos now.
Too expensive for what they are.
There is a really good portrait photographer I use for the business
who does much better work for about £100 a session with a few prints.
OK, its more than the school photos, but with three kids in the one shot it
brings the overall cost down!

Big indeed.  Earnings of about £50,000 per employee.

I bet they pay them only a *tiny* fraction of that.

>But why do they still photograph people against mottled backgrounds?

Because people keep buying the photos.

£100 is good value, especially when you are getting someone's original
work rather than a "formula" school shot.  Many portrait studios offer
excellent deals for photos of children.

It isn't a market I ever tackled, though.  I prefer shooting adults.
