Not sure about the other agencies, but if you look at the FAQ for Alamy you
will find the following :
"48 MB minimum. All digital camera images must be captured on a digital
camera capable of producing files of 14MB and upwards. Please then
interpolate the images to a minimum of 48MB using professional upsizing
software. We recommend Genuine Fractals (http://www.lizardtech.com) for the
best results. We reserve the right to reject over manipulated images.
Maximum file size of 70 MB."
That would seem to mean to me that thay will take images from any camera
capable of 5Mp up...
On a somewhat related subject, can anyone explain to me why our 6Mp Canon
EOS10D produces raw files which are only around 7Mb - that seems like a
whole lot of compression for what should be a completely loss-less format...

Presumably it is similar to TIFF, which is also lossless. A quick
calculation suggests the compression involved to get a 6.3 MP image at
24-bit colour into a 7Mb file is only about 3:1. TIFF, using lossless
LZW "dictionary" methods of compression, can compress files by up to
10:1, so the size reduction of Canon's RAW files seems quite modest.
