i was looking at the 8700 sample pics at steve's digicams, and they
were markedly superior to the others of it's ilk as well as the lower
end dslr's, like the rebel.
but it said this about manual wb,,,,"White balance - Auto, Preset,
Fine, Incandescent, Fluorescent, Cloudy, Speedlight or Shade (at
settings other than Auto or Preset the white balance can be "fine
tuned" +/-3 steps)".......anyone with experience with the 8700,,,what
is this "manual wb"???? doesn't sound like mwb to me!

It isn't manual wb and Nikon doesn't claim so... Each of the settings has
three options. For example, Cloudy has settings -1, 0 and +1, giving the
three steps - "regular cloudy", slightly warmer and slightly cooler.
What is more like manual wb is the Preset, which means that you can
measure the wb in the scene by pointing the camera to something gray.
