I was at a wedding recently and saw the photographers using this and it
actually looked similar to what I developed with paperboard and a
shower curtain. I liked it!! Anyone use it? I checked the web sire and
there it has an open top, but the guys I saw used it with a closed top,
like a big plastic light bulb. I thought this was better. Any thought?

The one for the Metz 54 unit came as a 3 piece set.
1. an adapter that slides on the flash unit
2. the base of the lightsphere
3. the domed cover which is detachable

the whole outfit works pretty slick, sort of a portable softlight
kind of effect.
For me, it works pretty good, using  manual mode on the camera
and the flash set to auto

wow, and people used to sneer at Monte for patting himself on the back, this
guy hard sells everything he touches and puts his name on.

there are dozens of various mini modifiers out there.  from complex white
card holders, to softboxes of various sizes, to things as simple as a file
card held with a rubber band.

first, do you understand what a modifier does?   it takes a pin point light
source and makes seem larger.  The first modifier is the one inside the
unit, that thing behind the tube.   what do most of snap on devices do to a
shoe flash?  They make the 2 inch light source into a six inch one.   That
helps a bit with close ups.

hey, if you want to make a big difference learn to use a slaved key light.
It really astonishes photogs the depth and 3d dimention you get, the subject
pop up off the paper, you can see texture and shape.   Two straight flashes
will beat one slightly softened one most of the time.

Actually, my little invention is sort of a smal softbox (around 8
inches wide)  with the sides made of an opaque white board, and only
the front is open with a shower curtain covering it. This gives more
direction to the light so it's not just a soft bounced flash. I like it
as an on-camera solution.
