Constructive criticism needed

I have begun to take photography a little more seriously than just
shooting some family pics around the house and vacations.  I am
experimenting with different exposures/shutter speeds/films.  With that
in mind, I did some 200 speed day photography yesterday and some 800
speed night shots.  Both albums can be seen here (they are the first
two albums):

The camera is a Nikon N80 w/ the stock Nikkor AF lens.  The negatives
were scanned into an Epson Perfection 2580 scanner and lightly modified
in Photoshop - not much more than Auto Levels, Auto Color and some mild
color, brightness and contrast adjustments.

I have included the f/stops and shutter speeds and exposure times in
the notes section of the day shots and in the name of the files of the
nighit shots.  Any advice/critique is appreciated.

My main critique is that even when I am getting good color, the
pictures are on the grainy/washed out side.  Is this the Indian or the
arrow (Nikkor lens)??

Regards,

Ben

Hi Ben,

Firstly I would suggest ditching the yahoo picture site and go to
another picture hosting site, I use www.photo.net myself for sharing.

It's dificult to tell if the images are good or not, I know little about
the scanner you are using, is it a film scanner? if not, what are the
prints like?

Composition wise everything looks ok.  As far as the lens quality, what
is it?

When I used to shoot film, I went to slide film which forced me to get
everything right, it slowed me down and made sure that my techniques
were correct.  The only time I used print film after that was for
weddings and then I used pro film.

The other good thing about photo.net is that it is probably one of the
biggest "camera clubs"/photo communities you will find, there is a huge
array of photographers on there, ranging from professionals to newbies
all willing to critique your work and give advice, also heaps and heaps
of forums, reviews and "how to" columns, and it's free!!
