I'm using a 2-light setup for portraits with 2 Novatron lights, Nikon D1x
and Nikon 105mm lens. On successive frames, I get a bluish cast to the
picture, while on other frames, same exposure elements and setup, the
pictures are much better exposed and better color-balanced. Can anyone
suggest why some of my pictures are bluish when I can think of nothing that
changes from frame to frame? Thanks.

Do you have the white balance set to Auto? If so try setting it to
speedlight.

The color of light changes along with change of power. Take few shots
changing
the power of flash and exposure. then scrutinize the results. You should
take rather exact meterings. Lens can also produce casts, depending on its
quality.
