I am in the newport news area and I don't mind driving/hiking a couple hours
to get a good shot. I just checked out you site. You have some great
shots.

In the autumn, a couple of years ago, I enjoyed hiking up to The
Cascades, about 10 miles NW of Blacksburg, north, off of U.S. 460. When
I visited, the area was in a fairly deep drought and so the falls were
reduced to a mere trickle. Given that this year has brought above
average rainfall totals, I imagine that it could be really roaring.
The falls are about 65 feet high and the hike to them is about a mile.
Worth a trip.

At or near rivers cmes to mind.
do you have a reliable compass?
(and a map might help too) ....
I'd (offhand) suggest the western
part ...... don't think of the Atlantic
Coast .............
