Hi,
As a Colorado resident who has visited the Maroon Bells numerous
time in summer, I have never been there at peak fall colors.
I would hope to drive in early to avoid carrying my 4x5 gear
on a bus.  For those who have driven in, what time do you
need to get in by?  Any advice appreciated.

Colorado fall colors are starting.  Some localized spots
at high elevations are already at peak, but overall peak
is a week or two away.

Hi Roger,

We were there last in Sept 2003 and I think the witching hour was 8 AM
or so to drive in without hassle.  Actually I *think* they were letting
people drive up until the parking lot filled after Labor Day but may be
off on that.  And they can change it from year to year too ...

My impression was that the Maroon Bells hit peak color about a week
earlier than the San Juans did, I think we hit it peak around Sept 22
plus/minus a couple of days that year and it was still excellent near
Telluride Oct 1 (you were there at the same time, IIRC) ... here's one
shot my wife got, plus the other reflection shots that are more typical
that we didn't post ... http://members.aol.com/bhilton665/aspen/mb.htm

I agree with Bill, that 8AM is the magic time.  I honestly can't
remember if they let in vehicles past that, as everytime I've gone it's
been before sunrise, so not a factor.  :)  Good luck, and have fun!
Show us what you get!

Thanks guys.
Now I've just got to find some time.
