Have anyone use a close up lense from CANON with their EF lenses to do macro
photography?

Does the lense work well with auto-focus ? Canon says to use manuel focus
with these lenses.

I have not used Canon's but I have used others and find that while it
will work with AF sometimes, manual focus does a much better job. I
also find a slider to be a useful accessory when using auxiliary close
up lenses to give me fine focus control..

Yes, I have used the 500D close up lens on the 70-200/2.8L zoom.

It works well with AF. But often for macro work MF will be more
appropriate. Regardless of the close up lens, even with a special macro
lens often MF will be better to work with.

Hi,
I have a technical question to ask anyone about my camera and a telephoto lens that I bought for it. I have a Sony Cybershot DSC-P50 and I bought a 2X telephoto lens for it.  I put the lens on the camera and I don't really see any difference when I zoom with or without the new lens. Does anyone happen to know what I must do to get the lens to zoom properly?  I think I probably do not have a setting correct but can not figure out the problem.  If I am not going to be able to get any better with the lens then I would rather send it back to the company.

Macro work is more finnicky with AF. Depending on the subject and position,
the camera can end up going right past the proper focus. Then it just goes
back and forth never really getting it right.
But when it does get on, it's better than manual focus, especially with
such small DOF's.

Perinax,

irrespectively whether its Canon or another brand: When doing macro
photography work, AF is seldomly (never?!) useful. So it really doesn't
depend on the close up lens, it depends on you.

Anyway, since close up lenses only magnify your objects (just like a
converter) AF is not influenced.

Close-up lenses do not magnify, per se.  They simply allow you to focus
at shorter distances.
