I was looking at Freestyle Photo for some strobe kits, and I ran across
some monolights I've never seen or heard of before. The company that
makes them is Savage, and they come with either 100WS or 150WS heads. I
also noticed that they were extremely cheap as far as studio strobes
go.
I had a couple questions about these strobes:
Has anyone on here used this brand of strobes before, and if so, did
you like them?
If you haven't used them, have you heard anything negative about them?
I would eventually like to become a full time commercial photographer,
but I'm still in the process of only shooting part time (mostly food
and some fashion). Since I need to watch what I'm spending I'm willing
to settle for strobes that aren't quite as expensive as Profotos, even
though I love them. (I'd rather spend $200 for a couple monolights for
the time being if they're good, as opposed to shelling out $2500 for
Profotos.) Would the Savages be a good choice for me?

Just glancing at the Freestyle website.
The smaller one only offers full or 1/2 power.
The bigger one gives you three stops of control. It's slow for a full
power recycle at almost 5 seconds. I doubt you'll find any add ons for the
lights. So don't plan on anything but umbrellas.

Awwww, and here I was just getting used to using the "barn doors". ;-)
But yeah.....5 seconds is a long time, especially for a mere 150ws.
