The difference between a forum and a newsgroup is that the forum is a
self contained entity that can be searched and referred to much more
easily as a resource. Images and files stay where they are posted. The
biggest difference IMHO is that a forum run by responsible people can
eliminate much of the misinformation and bad behavior that one sometimes
has to wade through on a newsgroup. Some may feel that any censorship is
a bad thing but I feel that confidence in the information provided is
real and not having to deal with every answer, wrong, intentionally
misleading or not, offensive, etc, is a benefit.
