I might be looking for a dream, but is there a REAL sharp zoom in the 100-400 range that works with my D70. I have a 80-400VR, but am just not satisfied with the resolution as compared to my other lenses. Something in that price range is a must ($1000-1500). Learn to use it properly. It's your longlens technique that's to blame, not the lens. If you can't take the heat, don't start the engine. He asked for a good lens when he has a perfectly good lens already. The logical conclusion is that he doesn't know how to use that lens, which is what I told him. While your reply on lens useage might be correct, there is no information provided to suggest that it is. A "prime" 400mm lens of good quality should yield noticably superior images to this zoom used under equal conditions. A "prime 400mm lens" will cost $10,000 - $15,000? You'd have to hunt hard for one at that price, and if you found one, you'd be a fool to pay that much for it. As I said, you'd be a fool, since there are many other lenses meeting the requirement of the orginal poster at a small fraction of such cost. Then consider that the camera cannot begin to capture your lens selection. Seeing as he's clearly not satisfied with the 80-400, the next step up in quality IS the 400mm AF-S... If he wants a lens in the 400mm range that is. |
