i  inquired about calumet's monos in another group awhile ago and received
nothing but great responses.  in fact, i plan on buying one of their kits
for travel very soon.  i'll still use dyna lite in the studio, but i think
calumet's should be a great choice for location (or even studio).

I've used Bowens Prolites for some years now (over 10) without any problems
whatsoever.  (Bowens makes Calumet lights and the Travelites are also
considered to be "Series 2" Bowens monolights and use the same accessories.)
Bowens (Calumet) lights have UV coated flashtubes and use a modeling lamp
that doesn't stray into the light path of the flashtube like White Lightning
does (they use standard household lightbulbs).  It is funny because when I
bought my lights I asked a similar question to yours about White Lightening
and must have gotten about 50-75 responses about how great White Lightning's
repair service was...while that IS important, I'd much rather tell you that
I have absolutely NO IDEA how good Bowens/Calumet's repair service is (and I
have four Prolite 100's).

Let me start by saying that I've never used a white lightning.
I have the two light travelite kit and love it. The lights recharge
quickly and give consistant light output. The flashes themselves are
made by Bowen.

If the lights I have now got stole or destroyed I would get another
set without even looking at another brand.
