Well... Wal-Mart has the Canon Rebel Ti for $270 which is a great camera
with depth of field preview... or save $50 more by buying it online from
various retailers.
70s and 80s era SLRs are going cheap at flea markets and swap meets. Have
seen Canon AE-1P's with accessories sell in the $30 range. I just bought a
nice Minolta XG-1 in the box for $20. With flea market cameras, you got to
know what you're looking at well since a camera that looks like new can have
a million small problems, but you save a fortune over Ebay and local camera
shops.

The OP is clearly a novice at this--and I think he might not be able to
properly assess a flea market camera. All the ones I have seen are junk.
And the sellers typically cart them from place to place, in the rain, in the
sun, etc.
It's fine to risk a few dollars on a camera of unknown provenance, but he
might do better to pay more for less risk. KEH comes to mind, although
their gear is a bit pricey.
