It has been a while since I was in Chicago but I shopped at the oldest
camera store there, Central Camera.  I think it was on wabash.

Why not buy online from B&H? They will havea better price and it will be
delivered to your door. But it a Helix in Chicago if you have no other
choice. They are located on Racine, just a ten minute cab ride from the
city.

Central camera's om Wabash, in the loop.  They've been in that
building for 100+ years now.  It's quite a place.

Helix is on Racine.  It's the only multi-floor camera store I've been
in; a separate floor for each dapartment.  Medium format, 35, digital,
darkroom, etc.

Calumet has a store on Cherry street that's worth the trip as well.

I've shopped and bought at all 3 during half a dozen vacation trips
there.

We buy visitor's transit passes for $5.00 per day that allow unlimited
rides on the transit system when we're there.  We've been all over
Chicago on the EL & buses, with no problems, and it's a lot cheaper
than taxis.  A taxi from our hotel at Michigan & Ohio to Calumet was
$16.00.  The transit pass gets you there & back plus wherever else you
go that day for $ 5.00.More money for camera goodies.  :-)  If you're
interested, take a look at the link below.  You can put in the address
of your hotel & where you want to go.  The site will tell you what
buses and/or trains to take, along with walking directions to & from
the stops and their schedules.  it makes getting around easy.
