Got an epson 3200 to scan MF 6x6 from my mamiya 6.
In a word - yech! Guess I have been spoiled by my LS-4000 for 35mm work.
The fiddly details  I obsess about in my work are simply blurred.
After 24h hours of testing, the 3200 is being offered on ebay..

So - on to a dedicated film scanner. My internet research seems to indicate
the latest Minolta Multipro is just *slightly* favored over the LS-8000. And
both seem favored over the Polaroid 120 sprintscan.

Is this still the general consensus?
Anyone know where I can get a re-conditioned Minolta multipro scanner?

thanks
Eric

Maybe it's a bad one? I heard good opinions about the 3200 with 6x6.

I scanned some slides with both the LS-4000 (set to 3200 DPI) and the epson
3200.
The fine details like fly-away hairs in head shots and tips of branches in
outdoor shots are
razor sharp on the LS-4000 and slightly soft when scanned with the epson
3200.
Very acceptable, but not good enough for very large prints (20x20 and up).
The scanner is fantastic (esp. given the price) for all other work.

Okay, let's pin this down. I was disappointed at first to find that my
3200 doesn't track _perfectly_ at highest resolution - BUT my gosh, that's
asking an awful lot of a flatbed scanner. Also, like any other 'long
exposure' you have to be sure do not disturb the scanner during a long
scan. Vibration is your enemy.

Do you have to auction it on ebay?  Doesn't the store you bought it
from have a "returns" policy?
faneuil - 28 Jul 2003 00:08 GMT
yes - but there is re-stocking fee.

you don't think a 15 or 20 percent restock fee is better than auctioning a
used scanner on ebay?    ah, I get it, this was just a way to mention that
you have

Nope - no hype. If you noticed I started by saying I was unhappy with the
scanner.
