Actually there is a new 88C MLU

http://www.kievcamera.com/camera.php?ID=123

It has a built in back instead of swapable ones. Suposed to avoid the
problems with kiev backs. But then again I'd just get a K-60 unless someone
just wants a poser type camera as what is the point in a camera like this
that doesn't have a removable back?

How utterly pathetic.

Yep, my thoughts exactly. Seems they want to stop making the K-60 (the only
reliable camera they make) so this was their answer. Seems stupid to me.

Which would be lighter?  The new Kiev 88CM or the Kiev 60.

I'd guess a K-60.

So there's no point at all to this "new" Kiev 88CM.  I do agree though
that the Kiev 88 is a little bit sexier of a camera, due to it's Hassy
resemblance.

That's all it's about, posing. That and they can consolidate the assembly
process. The 88CM has the problems with it's shutter (always has) and film
path causing flatness issues that the k-60 doesn't have. The K-60 is a much
more reliable camera yet this is the one they are discontinueing. Maybe
people want to pose rather than shoot and they know it?

Personally I think the twist/lock P-6 mount type cameras are better then the
CM's. These cameras were designed for metal shutters and the cloth shutters
seem to cause problems. Right now the ARAX K-88's (titanium foil shutters)
seem to be the best around and they are easy people to deal with. IMHO
-kievcamera- has gotten too big to give quality service anymore and is
unresponcive to e-mails/problems after the sale.
