Yup, I had the same problem as well. I bought a mamiya 7 ($1200) but
returned it within the 14 day no hassle return policy. It sux because
I had returned the camera back to them within the first week that I
had recieved it.
I first called and talked with Gail (the clerk who I originally placed
the order with), after about 7 days, and was told that the return was
being processed. So, I waited. After 7 more days I called back and
she said she was actually processing my order at that very moment and
apologized for not having had it processed sooner. Needless to say I
didn't really belive it :) Of course, after 3 more days I noticed my
account had still not been debited. I called back and this time asked
for the manager Scott Faust and explained my situation and he promptly
transferred me to the accountant (I believe her name is Jenny).
Finally, after this last conversation, my money was credited back
within two days. Anyway, the matter finally was resolved but at the
expense of alot of stress worrying about it on my side, especially at
the amount of money at stake. Thought my wife was going to kill me :)
So, I would advise you to call and ask for Scott, tell him that you
need to followup on your return and that it was under the 14 day no
hassle policy. He should transfer you to the accounting department
and they can see if your return has been processed or what the status
of your return is.
I hear all the time that KEH is highly recommended but I'm hesitant on
ordering from them again. Although Midwest Photo. Exchange maybe
slightly higher, I have had numerous orders filled out by them without
problems and have even returned a Pentax 67 ($1000) that was refunded
within a week. Perhaps that's KEH's way of getting back at people for
returning items back within the 14 day policy :) I wouldn't want to
see how KEH would honor their 60 day warranty.
let us know how it works out,

MidWest is terrific. I bought and then decided to return a used Ebony camera
there recently. I told Jim that I would get it in the mail that day so that
they would receive it within the 15 day return period. He said not to worry
about the 15 day return period, just so I got it back to them sometime
within a month or so they'd refund the purchase price. Then when we learned
that the new Ebony I ordered wouldn't be in stock for a while he suggested I
keep the camera I was returning until the new camera arrived so that I
wouldn't be without a camera while waiting for the new camera. Then when I
finally did return the camera the credit appeared in the mail within a week
or so.

I really think this is a bit harsh. I had a return some time ago with
them and while it did take a while for the whole thing to play out,
I had no trouble with the transaction.
If you spent $1200 and your wife was going to kill you, I have to ask -
did you talk to her before you bought it or did you do what a lot
of us guys would do - buy it and see if she noticed the depressed
bank account. If it's the latter, I can see why you'd be stressed
about the whole thing, but it really wasn't KEH's fault.
I guess to me, it's like anything that happens online. I bought some
used cd's on amazon.com. One of them never arrived. After some
talking with the seller, he's going to refund the money. However,
start-to-finish the whole transaction has taken well over a month and
I tend to think this kind of timeframe is more typical than most
would like to believe.
Just my 2c.

Well the 1200 was my own money, but you know how marriage is. It's
kind of like "what is my wife's money is my wife's money and what is
my money she owns half".
But anyway, anytime you have a problem, whether it is amazon or keh
your view of them may be skewed for some time, I'll admit that. I
like to compare KEH to ebay with a warranty. KEH has a huge inventory
of cameras, yet they really don't have a way to describe what they
have. They can't give you a description of the product over the phone
except just to reiterate the grade of the camera.
For this reason, if I'm buying a new camera I would rather deal with
Midwest. If just for the fact that you can talk to a specific person,
whether it be Jim in large format, Tom in medium format, or even Dan
the darkroom guru and they will give you an accurate description of
the product or any defects it might have.
That being said, I wouldn't cross out KEH as they have a pretty
conservative grading system. I would probably consider them more for
buying lenses then anything else.
