Sunpak model differences

I am trying to understand the difference (if any) between two Sunpak
handle mount flash models.

Sunpak auto 622 pro-system
and
Sunpak 622 Super Pro

I have been looking at images and product descriptions on the net, it
appears that the pro-system is an older model and the Super Pro is a
newer packaging with the zoom head, but I can not determine if the
electronics are the same.

I also can not get much information on the specs for the standard head
vs. the zoom head. I am interested in wide coverage and don't know if
the zoom head makes a wider pattern than the standard head.

Any information would be appreciated.

Have you tried asking a Sunpak dealer or the Sunpak distributor? In the
USA the distributor is Tocad in Rockaway Township, NJ.

Yes, I have been to their web site and called their phone number and
it took a voice mail for a call-back. Nothing in 48 hours, so I asked
the experts on the groups.

But have you simply asked a camera store?

PMA ends tomorrow. Many of the technical people are here in Las Vegas at
the show. So it is not unusual that you have not received an answer
immediately.

But many camera store employees can answer your questions.

Hi Bob,
Thanks for your responses. So far I have not asked a camera store. I
just bought the older model on eBay and was bidding on the repair
manual (for I think the older model) and was looking for a quick
answer. I did not think the store people would know comparisons of old
vs. new models, but I guess some of them go back just as long as the
pro photogs.
Thanks for the insight about PMA. I won the repair and user manuals,
so time to chill and wait for the deliveries.
Regards, Tom.

I can't speak for this particular model but in general
expect internal changes in any device that has had as long a
successful run as the 622, look at all the different
iterations of the Vivitar 283 for another example.

Zoom heads are usually more popular for tele users (again no
first hand knowledge of this unit and I assume you've
already exhausted Google but wide angle coverage is usually
achieved with diffuser panels rather than zoom head).

Sunpak's FK-6 filter kit has 28mm and 20mm diffuser panels
(and fits only the 622 Zoom head).

622-flash

had this to say about the Zoom head:
"GN 160-270 (ISO 100). Permits use of 28-135mm lenses."
(Ain't Google grand?)

OTOH, I had a camera store employee tell me last week he couldn't get
the answer to a question because he couldn't get a call back from Pentax
'cause they were all at PMA.  ;-D
