I just picked up a Mamiya Pro 645 for a song.  The box showed up & I ha
to move to the garage the odor (mildew musty) was so strong.  I plugge
through trashing the packing materials & box, and cleaning the camera.
The viewfinder and mirror were dusty.  Overall, the camera looks to b
in good condition (shutter, curtain, body all cleaned up nicely fro
what looked like dust) minus the odor, so my question is: should
worry about mildew damage?  Is there any way to get rid of the odo
without killing the camera?  It is possible to return the camera withi
the next three days, but if it's practical, I'd like to keep it.

Thanks for your help,
MF Newbie- Mar

I've occasionally picked up cameras with the same issues.  As long as
there's no fungus, mildew, or rust damage, just clean it up as best you
can and let it air out.  The odor will dissipate over time.  Got a
couple of really smelly Graflexes but after cleaning and general use,
the odor went away (or my nose has become desensitized)

To get rid of the smell, put the camera in a closed box with a open
bowl of vinegar for a week.
