Bronica RF645 - new camera, old 135 lens?

Hello All

I have just bought a new RF645 (from Robert White in England, excellent
price) and then a 135 lens.  I had  sold just such a combination in
December last year and almost immediately regretted it.  My question is
this: since the new body is adjusted for the 100mm lens, does that mean
that the bright frame in the viewfinder will not show the frame for the 135
lens?

I shall have to carry out some tests of a brick wall to see, and I have
already spoken to a helpful chap at Intro2020, the importers, but I should
be interested if anyone has heard of any problems.

Hi,
The camera has either a 135 or a 100 frame, not both.
My camera had a 135 frame and this is replaced with the 100. Not very
expensive and I ssuspect they can also do it the other way around if
they have a 135 frame available.
the focusing with the 135 is quit critical. Robert White can especcially
adjust your camera to your 135.

Best regards,

Hi Michiel

Thanks for your thoughts.  I relented and emailed Intro2020, the UK
importers, and they told me the same.  The calibration for the 135 is free,
but the re-jigging of the viewfinder frame will cost around GBP65 plus tax
...

I do want to be able to use my 135, so I have sent camera and lens off for
fixing.  How do you find the 100mm lens compared with the 135?  The minimum
focus of the longer lens is bad enough, at 1.8m) without reducing the focal
length I should have thought.

However, I have read good things about the 100mm lens.

Cheers

Chris

Hi Chris,

The 100mm in itself is a very good lens. But IMO it is too short. Even
135 is on the short side. But it seems that the RF is not accurate
enough voor longer then 100mm at 1.8m. You can go closer but that is for
your own risk. This makes the whole set quit useles for portraits unles
you make 3/4 with smaller apertures. For me this is not a problem
because I use the RB67 for studio work.
Where the RF645 excels in is traveling light and street shooting. This
is exactly what I use it for. This Easter I go camping and will make
long walks, the RF645 will go with me in a backpack for landscapes on
slide and two leiCA m6'S FOR b/W and family snap shots.
This summer I will go hiking in the Alps. Theen the RF645 will do the
landscapes again and Leica R8 will do the macro and long tele shots for
the flowers and the animals.
One system just can't do it all:-)

Best regards,

Hi Michiel

Yes, I use my OM SLRs for portraits, or perhaps my E-1.  But I cannot carry
it all ...

Happy Easter

Chris
