I am considering a Ringlight for my Hasselblad 503 (CX) and seek advice
on best performers. Keep in mind  I have a Hasselblad SCA adapter that I've
never used and I am unsure of its brand applications. If consiring a Sunpak
DX 12 then can I assume I need the Sunpak -Hasselblad dedicated module as
well or instead of? Does Metz have a Ringflash offering as well so I can use
my Hasselblad adapter?

As well as. There is a Sunpak hammerhead gun that has interchangeable heads-
including a ring- also.

No.

Bear in mind any generally available ringflash is going to be useful only at
very low guide numbers.

No. In stead of.
The Sunpak needs a Sunpak adapter, and can't do anythging with the
SCA-adapter.

I own the Sunpak DX12R and I am not too happy with it.  I feel the flash is
not strong enough.  I have used it on my Pentax 645N with the Sunpak PT2D
module and  using Kodak ektacrome 100 film setting my 120mm lens at 1:1
macro and shooting at f16 to get good depth of field I find that the film
came back 1/2 to 1 full stop under exposed.. I would recommend trying it
before dropping almost $300.00 on this setup. You will also need the Sunpak
HA-2D module for TTL dedication and Sunpak says you need to order part
#40681 from Hasselblad for the filter ring.  Let me know it any of this
helps  I am going to test it some more but I think I will go back to a
dedicated flash held off camera.
