There is no point my asking this on the 35mm newsgroup, as they know
nothing, so I'll ask it here. There was a Schneider-Kreuznach f4 28mm
Curtagon for the Retina Reflex S and later cameras that was a complete
interchangeable lens. The 28mm I know had an integral lens hood but I
am looking at one now that has hardly any lens hood and has no
depth-of-field moveable markers either and instead this is read off the
collar. The serial number of the lens is 11 594 368. Is this a late
model of the lens? Is there a web site where the change in design is
detailed?

Thanks in advance,
Roland

Roland,

If it is missing depth of field markers, it sounds like it was made for the
126 Instantmatic series. My retina lenses are all stored away at the moment
so I cannot compare my s/n numbers against yours. I will post my findings
when I dig them up.

Cheers,
Denny

I am sure you are right. I got 2 e-mails telling me that. I hope the
lens won't vignette in the corners when on a 35mm camera.

I know it's the wrong newsgroup (they don't know anything about cameras
and lenses on the 35mm equipment group) but that Retina Reflex III has
a sod of a shutter. Even if you buy a "perfect" example on ebay then 2
chances out of 3 the shutter isn't working correctly. All those good
lenses going to waste because there is no camera to mount them on. I
know they can be cut to fit a bessamatic and that camera has a more
reliable shutter (I don't know why as it seems like the same shutter to
me) but the bessamatic already has a range of lenses. Not the 28mm,
though.

Roland,

I have talked to a repairman who deals with a lot of Retina lenses.
According to him, these are late model lenses and they should have same
optical design but closer minimum focusing distance. However, he noticed the
coating has changed in the late model compares to the earlier one.

Cheers,
Denny

If it has no moving depth of field markers it was intended for the
Instamatic Reflex.
