I'm ordering a Beattie focusing screen for my RB67.  Does anyone have a
preference between the horizontal and diagonal split center?  I use my RB
mainly for scenic and groups of people.
There is also a Mamiya screen on ebay with just the fresnel center.

Test the focus accuracy _VERY_ carefully after you've installed it. Mine for
the 645 was off. Ouch. (Actually, I just happened to be in an excessive
equipment testing phase of my life and happened to catch it before I got
burned.)

I've always preferrred the horizontal split. It works only with vertical
lines but is more easy to focus when you find one than the diagonal
split. I ordered one for my C330 some weeks ago and am delighted with it.

You should have no problem finding a vertical enough line in your shots
then.

I had it on my former Mamiya screen but I really prefer the split image.
There's a plain matte surface around it too.

Diagonals, when I can get 'em.

Hopefully Mamiya made some sort of bright screen for the RB? I'd rather use
that than a Beattie, as the Beattie I used in an FE2 was useless.

I've read contradictory comments about the Beattie screens. It would
seem that some are really improvements while others are not so. Compared
to the Mamiya C screens, it is night and day, litterally. On the other
hand, I've read bad comments on them for 24x36 cameras. I think it would
be a good idea to get comments about the specific Mamiya RB Beatties
before buying.

Okay, this is the particular Beattie screen I had in mind for my RB67.

Get a Maxwell, it's the Cadilac of focus screens. It's bright -AND- easy to
focus. I've never heard anyone say they weren't satisfied with this
purchase. I have one in every camera I use regularly. Personally I hate
focus aides and the Maxwell is so easy to see the focus point with, a plain
matt with grid lines in my favorite.

I'll second that. I have one in a Rolleiflex TLR, and focussing is no
problem at all.

Bill Maxwell has no Website, but you'll find a phone number here:
(Google search for "Maxwell Precision Optics")

That's the problem when you're from another continent and English is not
your first language: Maxwell screens are hard to get :-(

Thanks for the suggestions and the lead to Maxwell folks!!
I received a return email from Maxwell optics this morning with attached
various options
and prices.  As my current screen is just a matte, I think I'll have it
"HI-LUXED".  Also
I think I will purchase from him a split RF/prism screen.  My eyes ain't so
good no mo'
Now if Mamiya would only cut the price of their 50mm lens in half!!

I googled the Maxwell  screens and found a review.  They included his email
address, so I tried it.  He answered back very promptly with lots of
information.  They seem pretty open as to your choice of communication
method.

I put a Beattie on my ETRSi. BIG improvement. That Beattie,
a rotary finder, and a gear head on the tripod have made my 6x4.5
a user friendly combination.
I've an RB and RZ which will also use the gear head. A gear head
makes precise composition easy. A gear head is always locked!
Manfrotto's 410 remains on my tripod. The 410 and another new
model which I think is lighter are two to consider.            Dan
