You are looking at a wealth of riches here.

I would love to get back to Charleston SC to take pictures.  I could
spend a week just at the Central of Georgia railroad shops on the west
side of the city -- and a lifetime in the central area of town.
(Don't worry... They moved the statue from the Garden of Good and
Evil).  But Charleston is relatively expensive to get to.

I'll second the vote for Chicago.  It is centrally located and easy to
get to.  The arboretum is a splendid idea.  Not only is it a great
place for photography, but they have a wonderful meeting room they let
out for modest sized groups.  But photo-ops are distinctly more
limited in DuPage County, and you are at least a half hour from
downtown.

The cheapest city to get to and stay in is Las Vegas (if you don't
gamble).  But be sure to have the conference.

We are narrowing our choices down to either Springfield, MA or possibly
Woodstock, NY. There are good speakers close to each location. In Springfield
we have an offer of help from the New England LF group. Woodstocj is close to
NYC.

Thoughts?  Comments ?

Have you checked just how to reach Woodstock and hotels in the area?

If you consider 90 miles close -- Woodstock is in the Catskills and is
closer to Albany than NYC.

Better yet, just look a tiny bit North of La Crosse and have it in Winona,
Minnesota. Much prettier and (taa daaaa) No Cheeseheads! :) (Now don't run
over me in the street for that, Collin!)

Ya.  Sure.  Going shooting might be fun.  We could shoot Gophers!

I'd only use LaCrosse as a base and go south along the river or
perhaps into the bluffs.  (Just wear long pants -- rattle snakes, you
know.)
Isn't there a cheese factory in Ferryville?

I vote for Las Vegas also..many,many cheap flights to it from just about
everywhere in the USA,plenty of hotel rooms, several convention centers, plus
large meeting rooms at all the casinos. Plus the Valley of Fire state park
just outside of town. And Death Valley about 100 miles away.
