After a trip to the camera store which has Canham, Toyo, Wista,
Linhof, Horseman among others I came away impressed with the Linhof
Technikardan and Horseman LE for monrail cameras and the Wista for a
field camera.  I'm curious what experience and views folks have with
the Linhof Technikardan and Horseman LE.  The Horseman was one I
wanted to look at from a review of the literature for its simplicity
and overall construction, and the Linhof clearly takes practice
folding and unfolding it, but its compact size and versatility seems
impressive.

There are two reviews of the Technikardan at www.largeformatphotography.info
in the camera review section, one by me the other by Paul Butzi. In a
nutshell, I didn't like the camera at all, he did. There is another review
of it by me on my web site, www.ellisgalleries.com.

I use the LE, and like it a lot.  It's simple, and being a monorail,
it's got plenty of movement, some of which are nicely geared.  I like
shooting architecture and interiors, and for that purpose it does
everything I need.  The guy under the darkcloth, on the other hand,
sometimes he doesn't listen too good... :)

There is an article on largeformatphotography.info (see [1] below)
about somebody who backpacks with the LE, seeing how it will fold
basically flat.  I haven't personally tried it, mainly because I don't
spend much time out in the wilderness.

The only downside I've found is that it's a bit on the heavy side, at
almost 10 lbs. (the Linhof is reportedly 6.6 lbs.).  But that way, I
can skip the gym and just go out shooting!
