Hi,
Can anyone tell me how I can create a playable DVD of still images that
would work on a stand alone player.
(Is there software to create one simular to the Kodak cd-rom)?

There are many software packages to do this, including pan & scan,
such as ULead VideoStudio, Sony Vegas, Adobe Premiere, etc.
I can't recommend one over the other, but could ask my friend
which one he settled on.  (IIRC he selected a sub-$100 package
over the more expensive ones.)

You can use a CD writer to create a VCD (Video CD) that plays
on most DVD players.  It holds only 1/7 as much data as a DVD.
