Sigma or Nikon Teleconverter

I have a Sigma 120-300 f/2.8 I'm using with a D200.  I'm not sure if the
Nikon teleconverter will work with the Sigma lense.  I would imagine it will
but I just want to be sure before I shell out some money for it.  I know
Sigma has one but I'd rather have the Nikon.

It may or may not be marketing sludge but manufacturers claim their
teleconverters are designed to work best with their lenses.
If you have the opportunity to try before you buy . . .
