This probably will provide enough memory space to meet the photo shoot requirements"
and 640K ought to be enough memory for anybody's computer, as Bill Gates probably didn't say.

: and 640K ought to be enough memory for anybody's computer, as Bill : Gates probably didn't say. Probably good advice for those who are using a 1meg camera or are just trying to replace their 35mm film camera. Concidering that a 6 meg camera shooting jpeg, a 128mb card would hold about 33 images. A 35mm roll having a capacity of 36 images would definately be equivalent to aprox 33 images on a card. But this does not take into account the way that photo enthusiests tend to take photos when freed up from the film and processing charges limiting us with film. When I go out on a photo safari, a day of shooting 24 to 36 images on film was a good day. Now with digital, a day of 100 images is not unusual. :)

Yes, and in a month, both will probably be cheaper in both countries.

A larger card would have saved the day. (I say this because, years ago, that exact scenario was given in support of larger cards. Honest!)
Anyway, it's up to each user to determine his tolerance for risk vs convenience. What's good for you may not meet what I figure is good for me. Who's right? The 'big card' vs 'smaller card' argument will never be solved; instead, the overall capacities just move upward.

I have a 256 meg card in my 4mp camera (407 pictures), and a 1 GB card in my wife's 7.1mp camera, about 900 pictures. I can't see needing a larger card for either as we only took about 470 pictures on our cruise to Alaska. Since we take both cameras now, we have room for about 1400 pictures, minimum.

It takes a 4GB card in my 30D to go over 999 pics. I certainly plan to shoot more than 470 pics on our Alaska cruise in June! :-) And, I'll be taking a laptop, so I'll be able to offload pics daily.

It is true, though, I wouldn't carry anything that large and heavy.

Liver, on the other hand, triggers an involuntary projectile reaction. My mother learned that the hard way when I was an infant. Infinitesimal amounts of liver chopped, pulverized and well blended into mashed potatoes couldn't hide it from me.

Do tell. The first time I had them was a couple of years ago when they were added to a sandwich. I liked it enough to go back to the preparer and ask what the leaves were and got a big surprise. I still don't like regular spinach so my take is that you're correct, the taste DOES change when it gets older, but it's the taste of the spinach that changes, not the taste of the taster. :)

I still can't stand the taste of spinach (the mature kind). Not fond of Brussels Sprouts either.

> Not fond of Brussels Sprouts either. Couldn't stay in synch forever. Those I like, and while we're on food idiosyncrasies, I don't care much for asparagus unless it comes from a can, like okra and grits, pretty odd for an NY'er.

I like asparagus, but NOT the way most restaurants serve it (undercooked). In fact, they fail to adequately cook MOST veggies these days. If I want 'crunchy' veggies, I will eat them raw. Also like okra, and can eat grits although they aren't high on my list.

At one point, I was actually snapping faster than the camera could save to the card, and had to slow down to let the camera catch up. I am not one who usually takes that many pictures as I like to choose my shots, and sometimes the opportunity is so fleeting I can't get it in time. Didn't have a laptop for that trip, but carry one these days. With the laptop along, you shouldn't need a really big card.

I won't take the laptop on the whale-watching boat (whether we'll see whales is another thing). I manage to take a lot of pics, and don't carry the laptop with me; Ill keep it in the cabin.

I will keep it in the car, or leave it behind in the motel, or on the cruise ship and transfer the pictures when I get back from 'excursions'. I generally take it along on road trips because in addition to the picture storage, I have Microsoft Streets and Trips on it for the maps, and tons of reading material stored there for when my wife wants to surf the souvenir shops, or antique stores. It is also handy for internet access on the road. Don't know if this is a national thing, but the Texas rest stops now have have free high speed internet access! Great idea!
Pictures are important, however, and I transfer them to the laptop, and keep them on the card, just for backup, until the card gets full (which has rarely happened).

> Take three shots, download and purge. Take three more shots, download and > purge. Yah, really.
I'm remembering my first PC had a 20MB hard drive. That wouldn't hold two raw files from my D200. (I'd owned several other computers before then, both ran CP/M and neither had a hard drive. I was a somewhat late adopter, though, because what I could afford in a home computer was so grossly inferior to what I was used to using at work, until I could afford a PC with a hard drive.)
