Help - in China with a new  Sony Cybershot T3 and no manual

I don't know if I am in the correct group, but I'm hoping someone can help
me.  I had my Nikon CoolPix and my Dell laptop stolen while here in China.
I've replaced the camera with a Sony Cybershot T3 (same as T33 in the
states) but it has only a Chinese manual.  It's a 5 mega pixel but I have it
set for 3 and fine and English.  I can figure out most of the features
but...........  I'm using a friend's computer to download the pics (windows
xp) but when I open the photos in his Photoshop 7 the res is 72.  I'm sure I
used to automatically open my old shots (old stolen camera and my computer
with PS7) with a res of 300.

I only noticed because the pics are huge but not very good quality - as
viewed on the computer.

So my questions  1. is my camera set up wrong?   Suggestions?  Or is my
friend's PS7 set up differently from the way I had mine set up?  Can I set
up his to open my photos as 300?

It's really really hot here and I may not be thinking properly. Do set me
straight please.

Thanks

Your camera is fine.
You will notice that when PS7 open the image at 72 ppi, the % of full
size (in the title bar) is about 15%. The 72 dpi at xx%  is just a
default setting that PS uses to display images on your monitor.
If you click on IMAGE > Image Size. You will see the actual number of
pixels captured by the camera.
At 3MP, the dimensions should be about 2000 by 1500 pixels.

If you can get internet access and assuming Sony isn't a banned site in
China, you should be able to access the manual in .pdf format. These
days, all sorts manuals are available on-line.
