I just bought a DX7440 camera. Because of the delicate (flimsy?) battery
door, I am considering buying the Camera Dock 6000 so I can re-charge
without removing the Li-Ion battery each time.
Besides charging, what else will the Dock do for me? Can I plug the 5V AC
adapter (included with the dock) directly into the camera's 5V input for
indoor use?
Also, I bought a Kingston 512MB SD memory card ($22.95 after rebate). It has
a write speed of 1.5 MB/sec, and a read speed of 2 MB/sec. Will this be fast
enough? How do these speeds relate to numbers like "45X"?
Thanks,
Art Harris

The speed "X" rating is based on multiples of 150 kb/sec, so
1.5MB/s and 2MB/s are equivalent to 10X and 13.3X. This is probably
more than fast enough for use in the DX7440 for photos, but it might
be a little too slow if the DX7440 can take high-res 30fps videos.
It's also more than fast enough for USB 1.1 or USB 2.0 Full Speed.
But if the camera/dock has a USB 2.0 High Speed port or you use a
USB 2.0 High Speed card reader then the card will limit the transfer
speed. Even with a slower USB port 512MB isn't exceptionally large,
so you should be able to transfer all of the files from a full card
fairly quickly, on the order of several minutes. Nothing like an
hour or more. With my first digital camera (a Canon) I transferred
photos using a serial port. Now THAT was slow!

The 5v adaptor included with the Camera Dock 6000 is the same
AC adaptor you can buy separately (for list price of $29.95) so it will work
directly with the DX7440.

Besides being a recharging station, a dock make it easier to transfer
photos from camera to computer.

The SD card will be fine for that camera. The dock also acts as a
connection to the USB port, if you want to plug that in (not required
for charging). Check the manual for the use of the 5V adapter. I
believe it is compatible, but you should check.

Greetings Art,
It is a pretty nice feature, Art, and adds readiness to your list. All
you need do is pick up the camera and continue with a charged battery.
It is a convenient way to keep your camera at the ready. It also allows
easy connection to the computer. Just set the camera on the dock and all
the functions you have set will take place for you at the press of a
button. The camera came with a wall charger, and this accessory allows
you to take it with you where you travel. If you have an extra battery,
you are all set with enough power for a full day of shooting. The
EasyShare software is the key to these connections and it makes things
easy to use.
Talk to you soon,

Thanks to all for the great responses. I scored a Series 6000 camera
dock on eBay yesterday, and look forward to trying it out with the new
camera.
