I own the 5400 and had trouble as well, when I installed it a few years
ago. There is a definite software problem, and I found their website really
poor at helping. However eventually I got it to work. At one point I updated
the driver, and I think you should search the website for driver updates
first. Before I upgraded the driver, I found that I had to turn the machine
on in a specific sequence as part of the boot, otherwise it would not
initialize. It seemed to work when I would turn the machine on first and
then reboot the computer. I have found others who had a similar problem,
even though Minolta never openly acknowledged that they messed up at the
software level. I was a little puzzled as to why a company would put so
little effort into making their system compatible with the most used
operating system in the world (XP). It speaks to the issue of reputation.
