I'm looking for a replacement system for the Coolpix 4500 and Coolight
SL-1 LED macro light. Nikon have discontinued the 4500 and don't make
any models that use the Coolight any more. Can anyone suggest a
replacement system preferable with a macro light that stays on rather
than flashes?

Amazon has two 4500s: one very good $400 and one like new $600.

If you want to invest into a system for close-up photography (or
photomacrography) that lasts, you need to bite the bullet and get a decent
DSLR, flash system and a good macro lens with one or two diopters etc.

Otherwise, get your parts used via eBay.

It's not for me, it's for a specific application which requires
compactness, portability and automation for non-photographers. The
Coolpix 4500/macro light combination fit the bill perfectly. I just
wandered if there were any alternatives.

Not possible - kit has to be new.
