My camera is Olympus C-170. It seems to have a scheme where
buy we can get "floating" ISO numbers such as 151, 179...
I was just wondering, what is the camera doing internally to
achieve such values?

Perhaps it is simply linear gain adjustment on the sensor. Many film cameras
have had stepless aperture or even shutter speeds in auto mode for years.
