The H1, H2 & H5 uses a 58 mm filter; also note that it
is attached to the "adaptor" that came with the camera
& not to the lens itself.
Another purpose of "adaptors" is using filters that don't
fit onto your camera. I understand that many owners
leave the Sony "adaptor" on the camera as the tube also
protect the lens somewhat & that the "sun shade" will
always be available when needed.
Just don't opt for a "cheapie" as the filter lens may
get you more bad pictures; stop at your local library
& checkout the photographic magazines for type,
pricing & quality(?).

I got this camera from someone else and all the parts are
not there.
When you are talking about an adapter that came with the
camera - are you talking about a tube which is about 1" long
and about 1 1/2" in diameter?

Yes. Believe that's what the filter & other items
will be attached. Take a look at the manual where
you saw how the pic of attaching the lens cap;
should be around page 20-21.
