In my experience, purchasing a software product usually results in the key being
e-mailed promptly by the product developer. This is an amazing coincidence as
the developer is the one who is supposed to get paid for the work in developing
the product. I'm no expert, but if I read correctly, this apparently has an
economic side effect called innovation where people are rewarded for their hard
work and it encourages them to pursue other worthwhile products.
