How many D80/D200 users are going to go for or sit out this upgrade cycle?
I thought it would take until late spring for this sensor to be pushed down
to lower priced camera bodies.

Oh woe! I must smash my ancient D80 with a heavy rock. I must not be
seen with such antiquated equipment. My images are now trash compared
to the new generation after generation of new models. An what will I
do with my old, old Nikkor ED24-120mmVR lens
when the new models come out soon? Should I invest in the soon enough
to come D400 body? Or wait even longer for the newer D500 which is
bound to be superior to the then to be old D400?

What are you talking about? This is the same sensor as on the D40x: 10 MP.
